The Garden

I promised you boring and I deliver! I have included some pictures of the garden. It is coming along but the interesting thing is that I just weeded after 7 months, and in California that means this weeds 3 feet tall, and I have discovered things I had forgotten about.

It is not clear here, but the combo of the red geraniums
and the white roses are really pretty.

This hummingbird posed for me for a long time. He even hovered a few feet
in front of my face - not when I had the camera though. He is a regular in the garden

I planted about 5 strawberry plants last year and now I have dozens.
Laska eats them during her perimeter runs around the back yard.

Although not properly captured in this picture, this sea of grasses is very appealing to me. It is in an overly wet area of the yard and it is all bird seed - an experiment. I really like it, but within a month they are likely to start looking pretty ratty and will have to come out. Whether they will or not is another story.

This sad thing is my forsythia. It bloomed in January!
Spring came before I had cleaned up from winter.

Rosemary and oregano - the beginnings of a perrenial herb garden.
I had no idea the oregano had survived until the weeds came down.

Beautiful specimen in the midst of a former weed bed. This is where I have unsuccessfully tried to include an annuals bed. These must have reseeded themselves last year.

Star Jasmine climbing the garden swing.

Valya's garden - planted with all cuttings of geraniums and succulents.
It has thrived and had the fewest weeds of all.

Another one I thought had died until I cleared it out, a hydrangea.

My favorite view - has all of the lushness I was going for.

Another view of the side garden entry.

I forget what this is - pretty though. It is on a fast growing climbing bush.

Butterfly bush

I planted some mint in a planter with star jasmine. As you can see, the mint is winning.

We have mint growing in our backyard. Its impossible to kill. We have cut it back 100 times and grows back stronger than ever. I have star jasmine in the front that is growing up the rain gutter and looks really pretty. My goal is to have all my plants survive while we are in Boston.

for your herb garden - sage is an easy and pretty bush. another indestructible is lavendar.

Our herb garden is sage, lavendar, chives and (our only annual) basil.

Elizabeth - cut the mint all the way down, pull as much of the roots as you can and pour vinegar on the exposed roots.

we managed to rid our garden of mint by digging it out. We also covered the former mint area with rocks. - Beth

I love your garden! Bet it was a project to get all the weeds out, thank goodness you tackled it during June Gloom or you would've been out there collapsed in a heap. The one after the butterfly bush is the same we have around our patio curve that grows like a monster (I can't remember the name either) so watch out or it'll seriously be 10 feet high......bonnie
