As part of my "Getting to Know LA" quest, I ventured out rather late in the day to see what I could see. I decided to enter LA via the 101 from the 10 and I saw a sign for Union Station. I had always wanted to see that. I had no idea that Union Station, Olvera St and Chinatown were right on top of each other. This bit of LA is part of the original city, I understand. It is very near the beautiful early 20th century city hall which I would swear was part of the original footage in Dragnet's "This is the city" segment at the beginning of each show, but I am not certain of that. Let me know if you know.
So, my foray was successful. I know three people in LA area and none were available for frolicking, unfortunately. Of course I didn't bother to call until I had arrived there - on a Saturday evening. I also arrived not hungry for some reason, so missed out on some of the best food in LA.
I forgot my camera so had to steal these pictures.
Entrance to Union Station
Interior. It isn't clear in this picture, but the seats are fantastic. It is an art deco treasure and the seats are leather, beautiful, and very comfortable.
This is a better picture of the seating - like club chairs.
Entry to Chinatown
"Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown."
