It has been an atypical spring in many ways. Lots and lots of rain as well as very cool weather. The California drought has been declared over and Governor Brown urges Californians to go back to their wasteful ways. So, my goal of gardening for 12 months in a row has been a huge success. A bag of brown rice and the occasional steak is all I need to keep me going. My life has been a bit uncertain, however, and I thought we might be moving in January. Well, it is now April and the soonest we will move is June. Unfortunately I stopped planting because of that and I also ceased mowing because every time I thought of it, it was too wet. And believe me it takes a lot of discipline to wait until it is raining to think about mowing the lawn. Bottom line - what is there did good but it is a tad ungroomed. I decided to just plant as per normal and if I have to leave it, I have to leave it. No biggie.
One of the outstanding crops - garlic. I planted some last summer but the ones I planted in the fall (like you are supposed to) are looking really great. I cannot wait to harvest.

Beets and carrots are items that in So Cal can be planted any month of the year. I found carrots pretty happy any time but the beets were not so thrilled with the cool weather. Several did not bulb but there are so many variables who the heck knows why.

My beautiful sqaure box of ornamentals has been largely untended except for pulling out the spent fl;owers. It is coming back by itself. It is a wonder what a little rain can do.

The other high achievers are the onions. Much bigger than those planted last summer.

Ratty overgrown garden

Finalmente! Celery! It was the slowest grower of anything out there but is now ready for picking.
And in completely unrelated news, but an honored spring tradition, Murph wins again for the highest score in the annual Mick-Patrick golf tournament demonstrating a level of consistency that Tiger Woods could learn a thing or two from.

So what's the plan then? Staying until when? I love your garden, and never knew anyone who grew celery with success! Congrats, and hopefully what you plant now, you will still be able to harvest before any changes come!
Wow - the garden looks great. Can you take the lumber etc. and remake when you land? Hope so.
