Mexican Food, Spring and Hockey

Good Times

Funny story. After going to Pasha's game I made plans to meet Jean at her house and visit for a bit. In the 10 minutes it took me to get there, they had forgotten and were loading into the car to go out. I chose not to take it personally. So, I followed. They said it was a Mexican restaurant on Escondido Blvd. I thought wouldn't it be great if it was where the old Los Amigos was? As we went farther and farther south on Escondido Blvd I thought maybe that is where it is and lo and behold, Los Amigos has come back to life as Hacienda de Vega.

In the late 70's Tom and I used to go there a lot. We would always take visiting guests there. I loved it and we always had a wonderful time. It was a ranch house that was made over into a restaurant. There was a pool in the back that was the bar/waiting area that made the long waits a part of the charm. They used then and use now grove heaters to make it comfortable even when chilly. It was family owned and they always left for Mexico and closed up for a few months a year. One year they did not come back. I burst into tears when I saw it (something that happens when I feel any emotion at all these days) remembering how happy I was in those days.

Anyway, short story long, it is still a great place - even better. We waited three hours for dinner and it was painless. At least we were feeling no pain by the time we were seated anyway.

The pool has been much improved. Instead of the old blue house pool it has been upgraded to a shallow water feature.

The bar/waiting area is even better. Not shown is the added grassy area where the kids can take a football and play and run around while waiting to be served. And THAT is why it's so popular.

At Jean's

The following weekend I did make it to Jean's and her flowers are screaming Springtime.

These are even better in person that I it looks like here.

One of her fruit trees - peach maybe?

Orange blossoms getting ready to bloom. They smell even better than honeysuckle. I don't know of a better smell than them.

Military vs Escondido Iceoplex Coaches

 Best hoody of the game

Blurry pic of both teams. Coaches are in orange jersey's that all had the number 04 on them. LOL. The first goal the linesman said to the scorekeeper, "Goal by 04 assisted by 04 and 04." The coaches, who included Grecia who is an ex-Red Army pro and another coach who is an ex-Ohio State College player, won 18-9 although it was not the rout that the score implies. The Military did have 5 bad minutes there though.

Loved Los Amigos. One reason we never eat "Mexican" food around here. I would love to see pictures of the whole garden for perspective. Amamzing the variety!
