Meanwhile Back At The Ranch

Things are progressing here. It has been interesting trying out different places - squatting in a foreclosure, an over 55 compound, new development and now the ranch. So far this is my favorite, although Encinitas still appeals.

The entry has a couple of wagon wheels as decoration and Dolly (landlady/roomie) wants to change them out. She said this is a ladies ranch and we should have grapevines or maybe a floral motif.

We are adding pipe so that the washer does not just empty into the yard. We are sending it back to the fence and let it water some plant - tbd - there.

And the garden. I do love a garden. What with countless gophers plus mule deer et al the paddock did turn out to be the best place for it. We turned the tack room into a garden shed and hope to get at least one new bed in every month. This month we are trying something less expensive that the previous one, and prettier. As you can see I ran out of paint. Will catch up with that soonest.

It has everything. Color. easy access, trellis or bird netting space.
About 12 more of these should do it.

I remember reading about farmers in England putting twigs in the ground for the peas to climb. So I decided to try it. I know they will get bigger than these twigs so added one big one and we shall see.

You can see how well protected they are in the paddock. We will probably be getting chicks too for eventual egg laying.

Sweet broom. Right outside the paddock. Smells like minty lemon and attracts bees. Which is a good thing.

Currently sprouted:
Peas
Radishes
Lettuce - several varieties
Broccili
Beets
Carrots
Brussel Sprouts
and I forget what else
