Ranch Stories

I must say I am having fun. One can get used to no HOA and lots of room. My landlady and I make great roommates. It has worked for both of us. I will be putting up bits and pieces as I get to them. Between trying to make my financial life work, moving and helping get things up to speed here I have been busy. It is an adventure.

Local story we got from the gas and electric worker who has to come onto the property every so often to rake the pine needles away from the base of the electric poles:

A lady had her dog catnapped when a bobcat jumped off of her roof when the woman was getting into her car. Who thinks to look on the roof?

So far I have seen a coyote and a bobcat. No word of mountain lions so far. I rarely go outside after dark though. In May the rattlesnakes come out so that should be fun.

Down the lane is a 25 acre ranch that accommodates horse camps. They also have a winery and if you bring your gorse there to camp you get a bottle of wine in the deal - cab sav.

We have been waiting for our cell phone booster antennae and the other night the UPS man honked at the gate. It turned out to be my good friend Paul. I always look at UPS trucks to see if it is him and never see him. Funny to run into him here.

We are starting the garden in the paddock. This is the first bed and
it now has things sprouting in it and a tomato plant.

We have 8 apple trees. Two of them are now in bloom
and the others are more like this one.

This is the water storage. Everyone up here has one. The well fills this and that way it is useful should your well run dry. However, after the dryest winter in years, the well has been fine. This storage tank is not yet hooked up. Soon.

If you look closely you can see the mistletoe among the oak leaves. Mistletoe kills oak so it needs to be removed. I was thinking of maybe early December and use it as a crop - sell the mistletoe for Christmas. Speaking of crops, we have a couple of wineries around us.

Woodpecker on top of the electric pole on the property.
It is a regular pecking place for him/her.

Getting settled in at the ranch. This is the first place I could hang pictures.
Family room.

Living room
 Bedroom
And this is all one room and I haven't even showed you the office. :)

I like the pictures that you have hung. Being able to hang pictures makes any room feel more homey. Macy will need to make her debut up there soon :)

I have to say I never pictured you on a farm.....but it seems to be the right place. Love the garden, the pictures, the making yourself at home. Remember to look up for cats and down for snakes and you'll be fine. Beth

Wow Clare- really really nice digs! And I love that it is a farm, I believe you will do very well there, growing seems to be a talent you already have and with nurturing, could be an important asset! Wishing you ALL the best!!!!!
