Easter Earthquake

What a great Easter. My friend from Rockport is in LA for work so we arranged to meet at noon at the Santa Monica Pier. We did and 30 years melted away. We had a great time walking up the beach followed by a really superlative lunch at The Lobster at the top of the pier. I could not bring myself to order Maine lobster in California, but did have some really creatively prepared scallops. A perfect day. But...it was only the beginning.

I realized that if Murph was in Malibu I was closer than usual and if he was in Koreatown, even better. As I entered the 10 east I illegally made use of my cell phone and snagged an invite to another restaurant. I was to meet them at The Farm - a restaurant at the Farmer's Market/The Grove at 3rd and Fairfax. Having just eaten I settled on iced tea. We had a good visit as usual. He told me that The Lobster used to be a shack and has gone more and more upscale as the years passed.

As I was sitting there, I could not figure out why the room was swaying. I figured that I was about to pass out or there was some inner ear problem. Didn't mention it. Kept looking to see if either Murph or Rose was moving the table. Turned out it was the outer waves of a 7.2 earthquake in Mexicali, MX. When I found out, I looked up and the hanging fans were still swaying. Turns out Rose felt it too, but Murph missed it. It was the talk of the ladies room. Everyone had assumed they were just dizzy.

It was like a wave going underneath - and in fact was. I always dread being in LA during an earthquake and when traffic is stopped/slow on the freeway I even avoid stopping under overpasses. But a 7.2 that was 186 miles away was not so bad. I am sure Mexicali is none too thrilled, though.
