What a great day we had. Danny had scheduled a helicopter ride for 3pm on Nov 19. The flight got delayed for a little more than an hour which allowed me time to look up a restaurant I knew in Acton and we ended up leaving the airport (Hanscom Field) at sunset making for a gorgeous flight over Boston. Unfortunately, because of the delayed take-off Dan did not get a chance to practice instrument flying and we decided against going up the coast in the dark and trying to land on Plum Island.

Do I look scared?

Rolling out the 'copter

Hanscom Field
The flight was gorgeous - perfect dusk. However, my camera was not up to the task. There was enough vibration in the helicopter that all aerial pictures are blurred somewhat. These are the best of those:
The Harvard football stadium in Cambridge

The Prudential and the Hancock Building as you approach from the west

Fenway Park - it is all torn up for maintenance, I assume

Another shot of the Pru - we flew between the two towers - very fun

View of the Christian Science HQ - really a striking building - near Back Bay

A shaky cityscape
After flying, we drove to nearby Acton. I am on a garden forum and one of my favorite people on the forum is Martha, owner of Sprigs restaurant on the 2 in Acton. I had not expected to be that close when I came out, having no idea where Hanscom Field was in relation to the rest of the world, but lo and behold it worked out.
We had a fantastic meal. Everything was perfect - ambience, food (deserving of its own blog entry) and of course Martha. What a great way to end the day.

Dan and I at the restaurant
Martha: the restaurant owner and stellar gardener. Martha has her garden right outside the restaurant and it provides some of the fresh produce for the restaurant in the summer.

Wow, what an awesome day. Bet you never thought Danny would be flying you around in a helicopter...
