Tough Old Broads

One of my most anticipated treats when I visit the Boston area is to spend some time with two of the toughest old broads I know. They certainly make me look like I am made of candy glass compared to the mettle they have shown over the years.

Today's meeting was for lunch at the Colonial Inn in Concord, MA

It's a new place but the local's have come to accept it...

Clare and Joan
Don't let their sweet faces fool you.

Clare is 89 - and she corrected us when we averaged up and said 90 - which she will be in two months. But until then she is in her 80's. She is the most independent person I know. Last summer she was still playing golf and continues to drive herself everywhere. And we can't complain that her driving is erratic because she is old - it has always been like that. A drive though Boston with Clare isn't something you will forget soon.

Joan is a Yankee by way of St, Louis. Pure pioneer. She is in her early 80s so still a spring chicken by some standards and is not happy unless she is walking, reaching, or simply doing. I should have half of her strength and energy.

My heroines.

And later...

A flock of seagulls hanging out in the surf at Cape Hedge Beach

Meg, Clare turns 90 in February. She still lives alone and drives to NH every Thursday to visit her 4 year old first and only granddaughter. She truly is amazing! - Beth
