One Potato, Two Potato...

We are at the beginning of a summer of truly boring blog entries. The garden. The garden part two. The garden sequel. The garden grown. The garden now... and on and on. Hopefully I will do something else before too long. I expect to be in PA in August (peak harvest season, btw) so hopefully that will provide some break.

I planted some new roses and the yellow ones are my favorites. The smell reminds me of May Procession. When I went to camp in Greece, I met a woman from Bulgaria who gave everyone a little vial of rose oil from The Rose Valley - where most of the rose oil used in perfumes is made. Wonderful.

I now have 4 raised beds. Right now it is all veggies, but I hope to include flowers. Some people get cats...

My potatoes went crazy - they are the fastest thing I have growing. To grow potatoes you have to mound up the soil as the leaves grow, leaving about 4-6 inches. I had to add another box on top - I didn't realize they grew so much. Learning as I go.

Speaking of learning, this is the new bed which will grow corn, pole beans and squash - the three sisters of Indian planting tradition. I finally learned to include an anti-Laska fence so that the young seedlings have half a chance to grow without their tops being bitten off by a wacko vegetarian wanna-be spaniel.

(you are the little red hen...i am one of those losers that don't contribute then want it all. the fox? the goose?) bonnie
