Social Life
I sometimes think that my social life suffers from my lack of money. Then I think about it and realize that although I love conversation and love seeing people and laughing and all that goes with it I am essentially a homebody and I would likely be doing almost exactly what I am doing now. Maybe traveling farther to walk around alone. LOL. I would definitely go to the coast more often. The highlights of my human interactions are as follows... and keep in mind this is supposed to be lighthearted - not depressing!
Recently, the biggest things I have going are games with Pasha. It started with Guess Who, then went to Boggle, which consists of trying to recognize a very limited set of 2 and 3 letter words that he might recognize, and then I taught him hangman. He loves it. Jean sent him up with the word "vexed". He came very close to beating me but in the end I prevailed! Yeah! I am still better at guessing 5 letter words than a 6 year old!
I mentioned the French Club before. These are just some of the books and tapes/CDs that I have to work with along with a myriad of online resouces. I have similar collections for Russian and Spanish. And yet were I dropped into Madrid, Moscow or Marseilles I could barely make my way to a hotel (I could ask but likely not understand the answer). But what luck! I have the time and no one to distract me so French it is. The club forces me to cram so I won't let 6 months go by without looking at the materials and listening to tapes.
And of course there are my invisible friends on my gardening forum, none of whom I actually 'know', but who seem like a friendly bunch and for a forum are exceedingly polite and helpful, and other virtual friends on Facebook, most of whom I have at least met before. The internet has made being home-bound much more broad than it used to be! I try to imagine the isolation of life on the farm before cars, telephones and radio. THAT would be tough alone.
Pasha ran into my room and grabbed the camera and came back with this. The truth is that the ball is stuck in the basket. Funny kid.
