New Year's Resolutions

The thoughtful person looks at the last year and decides what areas of his/her life need improvement. They are enthusiastic about getting started on a new path first thing January first. Then they spend New Year's Eve drinking, partying and staying up too late so that on the morning of Jan 1st they blow off anything that smacks of improvement. The perfect built in fail-safe for having to move forward. Works for me.

The big payoff on New Year's morning is for the non-drinkers. While everyone else is trying to remember their name, they can jump out of bed with their usual joie de vivre. Jan 1st should be National Teatotalers Day and should be celebrated with a mass morning jog.

Or not...

Funny line heard on NPR:
"I would pay extra for a house without a kitchen"

****************

We skyped with the Moscow family shortly after their new year celebration (about 12:30 am Moscow time). I asked Valya how it was in 2011 and she said "It's cold".

She actually said "Xолодно" ("holodna") but the point is no matter how crappy your new year may seem, be happy you aren't in Moscow.
