Valley of Fire

We had one free day while in Vegas. After visiting vendors we took a side trip to the Valley of Fire. Just 40 minutes outside of Sin City it is worth a trip. We SO lucked out by having an overcast and unusually cool day - 80-90 degrees as opposed to the normal 105+ degrees normal at this time of year.

Stark beauty usually has me running the other way. But I was a captive audience and it turned out to be impressive. The area was at one point covered in gravel and for whatever reason is not now. I assume there is some geological explanation for it. Remind me not to sign up as a tour guide for the area.

Our friends, the clouds. They kept the day doable.

 The beehive.

Petrified wood. Always wanted to see that! One off the bucket list.

 Poodle Rock

Ooooooo.

 Aahhhhhhh.

Look like chipmunks, but really squirrels. They are tiny.

Petroglyphs

I assume bighorn sheep are not new to the area.

Rainbow Valley. The picture does not capture the full range of color.

I am sure there is an explanation for this. I do not know what it is.

Bighorn sheep

 Ditto

 These are really pink rocks

Watch out for the Boy Scouts!

 Cool
