Back to the Garden
While in So Cal Tommy and fam came to dinner. Jean has mastered the art of the hard shell tortilla for tacos. Very impressive. The rest of the meal was all garden food, of course but we had to buy cilantro because ours is no longer growing. Too hot. We got to try out the new, improved version of the spud gun - air pressure instead of propellant driven. Safer. It resulted in 4 of Pasha's socks being stuck on the roof.

I was determined at some point to try canning if I had enough produce. So here are the results of my first effort. There are half pint jars of pickles, formerly fresh cucumbers. The dill heads and garlic were also from the garden. Very exciting for the garden nerds among us. Those things that are high acid - like pickles - do not get botulism, but can go bad. However, if they go bad it generally isn't a secret. So pickling is a safe first step.

We havent checked the garden yet but it was nice to come home to a clean house :) too bad its already trashed!
